Our Story
1967: SRB Film Services
Established in 1967 by Shirley Robert Broomhead and later passed down to his son Ian Broomhead, SRB Film Service of Luton started as a precision engineering company that made metal components for the optical and photographic industry. SRB Film Service designed and constructed a huge range of products, from filter holders to complex optical housings. One main strength was the ability to produce one-offs and custom built parts to customers, both quickly and cost-efficiently; starting our long career of bespoke engineering.
1977: Griturn Engineering Ltd.
Griturn Engineering Ltd. was formed and primarily supported the engineering requirements of Optex Ltd; a company that supplied camera lenses, mounts, bracketry, and filter systems to the television and film industry. Over the years Griturn looked to diversify its product range. The introduction of CNC machinery enabled Griturn to start manufacturing for the mass produced markets as well as in small batches. Inside this team at Griturn Engineering were current Managing Directors, James Condon and Terry Fogden.
2006: SRB Griturn Ltd.
For many years, both SRB Film Services and Griturn formed an increasingly close relationship in the photographic industry. The possibility of merging the two companies became apparent. So, in January 2006, the two became one. This combined in-depth photographic knowledge and engineering experience to form SRB Griturn LTD.
2010: SRB Photographic
In 2010 we renamed our expanding e-commerce business; SRB Photographic. The primary focus of srb-photographic.co.uk was to provide the best quality products with a focus on customer service. So far, we have gone on to win the Amateur Photographer Good Service Award in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020. As well as Practical Photography's Gear of the Year Award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
2013: A New Residence
In 2013, we took a huge step towards upgrading our engineering plant by occupying a brand new state-of-the-art 10,000 sq ft facility. This facility is situated in the Bedfordshire countryside and consists of three professionally equipped units. With our new layout and the copious amounts of open floor, the workshop has been designed in such a way that our highly trained and focused team can provide the very best service to our customers. Including a brilliant SRB Photographic office, showroom, and shop.
2016: Remembering Ian Broomhead
Late in 2016 we were shocked and saddened to hear the news that our former Managing Director, Ian Broomhead, passed away. A truly hard working and all-round nice guy that can be credited with the importance of the SRB brand. His excellent attention to detail and love of photography will be greatly missed at SRB and we feel this is a genuine loss to the photographic industry.
