iPhone X Tops the Charts for Image Quality
The iPhone X is the best smartphone for still images that money can buy, according to the latest mobile rankings from the professionals at DxOMark .

Scoring a best-ever score of 101 for it’s still imaging capabilities, Apple’s £1000 smartphone jumps ahead of rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.
Inside the iPhone X’s dual camera is an improved telephoto lens. Featuring an aperture of f/2.4, compared to the f/2.8 telephoto lens of the iPhone 8 Plus.

“With a Photo score of 101, the Apple iPhone X achieves the best results so far for still images”. DxOMark says. ” Compared to its cousin iPhone 8 Plus, the X improves noticeably on Zoom performance. Also doing better in terms of Exposure, Color, Texture, Noise and Artifacts.”
But you may notice that the iPhone X sits behind the Google Pixel 2 in DxOMark’s overall mobile rankings.

This is because of the iPhone X’s sub-score of 89 when it came to testing video capabilities. Leading to an overall ranking of 97, 1 behind the Pixel 2. (Even after Apple improved video capturing to 4k at 60fps – higher than the 4K at 30fps found on the Sony A7r iii and Nikon D850, respectively.)

Although some may question the iPhone X’s video features, it still performs exceptionally well. As shown below when Fstoppers put the smartphone side-by-side with the Panasonic GH5 camera.

Apple’s flagship smartphone has captured headlines and the attentions of photographers & videographers in it’s first month. As well as outselling the iPhone 8 models in it’s first weekend of release.

“After the first weekend of sales, the device is estimated to have captured nearly one percent market share among all iPhone models. The highest over that time since the iPhone 5s.” (MacRumors)
